Meet the Tabbed Product Page: Cleaner, Faster, Smarter

Back in July, we introduced a redesigned Tabbed Product Page to the Ultimate Product Catalog WordPress Plugin. Now that it’s been live for a few months, we want to take a step back, highlight what’s possible, and share how store owners are already using it to create cleaner, more mobile-friendly product pages.

If you haven’t switched to the Tabbed Product Page yet, here’s why it’s worth your time.

Why the Redesign Matters

The new Tabbed Product Page replaced the old horizontal tab design with a modern accordion-style layout. Instead of stacking all details in one long page (Default) or relying on traditional side-by-side tabs (Shop Style), each product detail now sits in its own expandable row beneath the product description.

It’s faster to navigate, easier to scan, and works beautifully on mobile — giving your catalog a more polished, professional feel.

Key Features Recap

Accordion Tabs for Every Detail

Product title, price, and description remain up top, while all additional details are tucked neatly into collapsible tabs. Customers only expand the info they care about, keeping the browsing experience smooth.

Hide the Tabs You Don’t Need

Not every store needs every tab. With this update, you can hide default or custom tabs globally. For example, you might remove:

  • Additional Information (categories, tags, custom fields, videos)
  • Contact Tab (if you prefer a separate contact page)
  • FAQs Tab (requires Ultimate FAQs integration)
  • Reviews Tab (requires Ultimate Reviews integration)

Create Custom Tabs with Custom Fields

Custom tabs let you display exactly the info your customers need — and with support for custom fields, you can make them dynamic.

For example:

  • This product is [size] → pulls in the product’s size field.
  • Download manual here: [file-link] → links directly to an uploaded file.

This makes it easy to build tabs for specs, policies, downloads, or anything unique to your catalog.

How Store Owners Are Using It

Since launch, we’ve seen store owners use the Tabbed Product Page to:

  • Build a Specifications Tab that lists dimensions, materials, or technical details.
  • Add a Downloads Tab with product manuals, warranty docs, or guides.
  • Create a Shipping & Returns Tab to standardize store-wide policies.
  • Integrate an FAQ Tab to answer common pre-sales questions directly on product pages.

By keeping this information organized in tabs, product pages look more professional while remaining easy to explore.

Haven’t Tried It Yet?

You’ll find the Tabbed Product Page option in your Product Page settings. Switching over is quick — and it’s the most modern, mobile-friendly layout available in UPCP today.

If you’re still on the Default or Shop Style layout, now’s the perfect time to upgrade. And if you’re using the legacy Custom Page layout, keep in mind that it will soon be retired — so moving to the Tabbed Product Page is the best way forward.

Final Thoughts

The Tabbed Product Page was a big step forward for UPCP when it launched this summer — and it’s already helping store owners present their product catalogs in a more engaging, customer-friendly way.

If you haven’t made the switch yet, now’s the time. Your customers (and your catalog) will thank you.
